Will the Chalet d'En-Haut renew the luxury igloo experience on the Col de la Girose? Winter 2013-2014 is slow to set in. After promising early snowfalls in November, December was stingy with large, starry flakes! The start of the Christmas holidays slightly changes the situation. So? This winter, will we be able to stay overnight, way up there, at the entrance of the Vallons route? While waiting to update the information for the 2013-2014 season, here’s something to whet your appetite with the luxury igloos "one winter ago"!
Adjoined to the Chalet d'En-Haut (for more safety and comfort), these 2 igloos invite nature lovers, freeride enthusiasts, and the simply curious to stay "under snow" in warmth, right under the stars. Comfort is far from basic, as high-quality sleeping bags, wooden beds, and a bottle of champagne are provided. In the morning, you’ll have breakfast facing the Aiguilles d'Arves and at the foot of the Queen Meije and her fabulous hanging glaciers. With a bit of luck (or mountain weather knowledge), 15cm of fresh snow will have fallen overnight. The first track in the Vallons is yours...
Avoid the weekend of April 4th, you’ll be right in the middle of the 26th Derby de la Meije!

Comments
The igloo is situated on a legendary pass, slightly less known than its neighbors Galibier and Lautaret, but which has seen numerous freeriders, skiers, surfers, monoskiers, telemarkers, and many more, with varying levels of expertise.
The Col de la Girose is the starting point for the Vallons de La Meije, the Trifides, or the Pan de Rideau if you're up for it...
It would be a shame to go down by cable car, so don't forget your Fats or your Swallow ;-)
