Sleeping in a lighthouse on the Baltic Sea
Presentation
Practical information
Lost on its small islet and stunning view of the Bothnian Sea.
In Finland as elsewhere, most automated lighthouses are experiencing a second life thanks to tourism. A unique situation - often on a small rocky island! - it doesn't take long to explore, but what a joy to feel in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the elements.
The Phare de Kylmäpihlaja is one of the few offering rooms in the lighthouse tower itself (and not in adjacent buildings). The 15 rooms and suites are bright and simply decorated with beautiful materials in shades of white, bluish gray, and natural wood. And all, of course, open up to the sea. As for the traditional question about the number of steps in the lighthouse, the answer is 104 to reach the 12 floors.
Built in 1952 off the coast of the city of Rauma (Western Finland), the lighthouse initially replaced a lightship. At 36 meters tall, it housed up to 12 men.
Also renowned for its restaurant, some food lovers do not hesitate to make the trip to enjoy cuisine with local flavors.
About 45 minutes by boat-bus from the small port of Poroholma in Rauma.
..:: New for 2021 ::.. 8 wooden tents are being installed, with an expected opening for summer 2021.
✯ Open from early June to late August and from May to September for groups) ✯
