Six artist rooms in a castle on the banks of the Loire.
An 18th-century castle in ruins and its seven-hectare park saved in extremis from a speculative operation, the story could have seemed ordinary. But it was without counting on the determination of the municipality of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, which decided to buy it back in 1997 and support its renovation for almost 13 years to make it both a guesthouse and a cultural venue.
In 2010, Estuaire took charge of designing the six rooms of the Château as part of a public commission by Drac Pays de Loire. To design the rooms, highly intimate spaces, they called upon artist couples in real life, regardless of whether they usually worked together or not.
The result of this public commission by Drac Pays de Loire is surprising and immediately delights the guests. At nightfall, when the château’s park empties, the rooms reveal a different atmosphere. In the rooms with their fantastical names, some even see the setting of fairy tales:

✦ 'La Grande Question' by Bevis Martin and Charlie Youle (comfort double room).
✦ 'Est-il bien prudent d’envoyer des messages aux extra-terrestres ?' by Mrzyk and Moriceau (double room accessible to people with reduced mobility).
✦ 'NEBELGNANZ' by Eva and Adèle (family room for 4 people).
✦ 'Saturnia Pyri' by Sarah Fauguet and David Cousinard (double room).
✦ 'There Was a Bad Tree' by John Giorno and Ugo Rondinone (classic double room).

Rates 2020, from €90 for a double room, breakfast included.5 double rooms (including one accessible to people with reduced mobility) and 1 family room (4 beds), the bathrooms are adjacent to the rooms.
For dinner, formula from €17 per person (terrine or soup or vegetarian spread, hot dish of your choice, a dairy product, a fruit, bread, and coffee). Drinks menu available on site.
The Château du Pé and its artists' rooms are open all year round.
Visit (free entry) of the Château's rooms on Sundays from 2 pm to 6 pm (ask for information).
